Wide Boy 2 -- Replacement ROM by Chris Covell
---------------------------------------------

What is this?

This is a program for the NES/Famicom that replaces the "BIOS" ROM in the
"Wideboy" peripheral for the Famicom. Check around the internet for more
information on the Wideboy.

This program is pretty useless on a bare NES or Famicom, since you can't
actually play any Gameboy games & change the palettes in real-time, etc.
However, I've included an NES ROM just so you can get the general idea.

To run this program on a real Wideboy, well, you could rewrite the EPROM on
the motherboard to replace the old Wideboy program with this one... or...
since this program runs *entirely* in the NES' RAM, you can hot-swap this
program (running off the PowerPak or a devcart, for example) with the
Wideboy unit. *** Do all the above at your own risk! ***

Controls:

A/B cycle the palettes in basic mode, as per the usual Wideboy.
Start cycles the different backdrops available.
Select kicks you to the more advanced palette editing mode. Press Select
again to return to the basic mode.

In the advanced mode:

L/R moves a cursor that lets you select palette banks. Press U/D to change
palette banks (similar to A/B in regular mode), or...

Press B to be able to move a cursor on the Gameboy's screen, where if you press
A, the 16x16 square under the cursor will be recoloured to the currently-
selected palette bank. It's kind of like the Super Game Boy which recolours
certain regions of the screen, giving you up to 13 different colours in Gameboy
games (depending on your artistic ability and palette choice). Press B to return
the cursor to the palette bank selection.

Pressing A when selecting palette banks will let you change individual colours in
those palettes. L/R chooses the palette; U cycles through different brightnesses
(+$10 in technical terms); D cycles through the hues ($x0..$xF in tech terms).
Press B to return to the palette bank selection.

Bear in mind that palette bank 1, colour 1 (the first one on the left side of the
screen) determines the background colour for all palette banks. Sorry, it's just
a limitation of the NES hardware.
